Statement on Marriage

 

We believe that marriage is the lawful union of one man (biologically male) and one woman (biologically female) to the exclusion of all others. We believe that marriage is not only a legal contract, but a spiritual covenant intended to be a lifelong bond. We believe that the covenant of marriage is rooted in the way we were originally designed and created in the image of God as male and female, and is founded upon the biological reality that humans exist in two genders (Genesis 1:27) and that these genders are complementary and equal in value (Genesis 2:23–24). Redefinitions of the understanding of this image are distortions: effects of the Fall in need of healing and redemption (Matthew 19:4-6).
